NRT-10033A 10G PMD Source

The NRT-10033A is a PMD Source designed for 10G/s bit-rate testing. For the first time you can10033A_productpix determine:

  1. The performance degradation due to second-order PMD (SOPMD) as well as DGD
  2. The interactions of noise, non-linearities, channel spacing, chromatic dispersion, etc.
    with PMD, and
  3. The PMD outage for any fiber PMD value in minutes/year

for your transmitter, receiver and compensator/equalizer.

This stable, repeatable, and versatile source removes the PMD statistics and dynamics from your experimentation allowing deterministic testing of the PMD impairment for DGD and SOPMD. NRT also offers a method to reintroduce the statistics after your PMDS measurements, in the data analysis stage. (For PMD tolerance testing methodology see our Technical Library section.)

The NRT-10033A can repeatably access more first and second-order PMD states than other PMD source designs providing greater flexibility and capabilities to meet your stringent test requirements.

10033-over-jpdfFor example, in the figure at the right, the axes and the arching blue curve bound the accessible 2-D PMD states of the NRT-10033A, coherent 10G PMDS. A variable 2-stage PMD source would only be able to access the states below the yellow arch curve. It is obvious that the NRT-10033A can access significantly more of the important PMD states than other sources. This is especially true for states with relatively low DGD but significant SOPMD, where the relative impact of SOPMD is more probable and significant.

Both curves are overlaid on the joint probability density function for a <t>=33 ps fiber (shown contours). The NRT-10033A offers complete coverage, even for situations of very high mean DGD.

10033A_Eye Pattern

The (yellow) trace shows the distorted eye pattern generated passing a 10G NRZ signal through a 10G PMDS set at DGD=40 ps and SOPMD=2263 ps2. The asymmetry is a signature of second-order PMD.

Key Features

  • 10033A Auto Calibration

The PMDS will automatically calibrate itself to center the PMD spectra on the desired wavelength (or frequency)

Stable PMD Source for DGD and higher-order PMD Testing

10033A_PMDS Spectral View

The PMDS Main GUI view allows you to see the set DGD and SOPMD state and calibration wavelength.

The PMDS Spectral viewer allows you to set the DGD and SOPMD state and observe the DGD, SOPMD, Depolarization, PDCD and PSP spectra to be generated. The red curve shows a 10G NRZ optical bandwidth for reference.
