NRT-40095A PMD Source

The NRT-40095A is a PMD Source targeted at advanced 40G/s DQPSK and 100G/s DP-QPSK modulation formats having narrower modulation spectra. The maximum DGD for the 40095 is 42 ps.pmdsource_box3

For the first time you can determine:

  1. the performance degradation due to second-order PMD (SOPMD) as well as DGD,
  2. the interactions of noise,
    non-linearities, channel spacing, chromatic dispersion, etc. with PMD
  3. the PMD outage for any fiber PMD value in minutes/year,

for your transmitter, receiver, system and compensator/equalizer.
 

This stable, repeatable, and versatile source removes the PMD statistics and dynamics from your experimentation allowing deterministic testing of the PMD impairment for DGD and SOPMD. NRT also offers a method to reintroduce the statistics after your PMDS measurements, in the data analysis stage. The NRT-40095A can repeatably access more first and second-order PMD states than other PMD source designs providing greater flexibility and capabilities to meet your stringent test requirements.

For example, in the figure at the right, the axes and the arching blue curve bound the accessible 2-D PMD states of the NRT-40095A, coherent 40G PMDS. The range of the NRT-40095A is overlaid on the joint probability density function for a 〈τ〉=12 ps fiber (shown contours).

The PMDS will automatically calibrate itself to center the PMD spectra on the desired wavelength (or frequency).
